Lemonade Day
Sponsored by:
June 6-11
What is Lemonade Day?
It is a FUN, FREE, city-wide event where KIDS get to MAKE and KEEP THE MONEY that they earn. Lemonade Day is brought to East Texas by Texas Bank & Trust.
Kids of all ages learn to set goals, develop a business plan, establish a budget, seek investors, provide customer service, and give back to their community. [Watch this video for an overview]
Lemonade Day is Simple
- First, kids get a Lemonade Day Backpack that includes the fun and instructive Entrepreneur's Workbook.
- Officially "Lemonade Day" is May 1, 2011, but due to a few logistic problems, the Club will host Lemonade Week June 6-11. Each kid sets up their lemonade stand at the time and location of their choice and sells lemonade to the community.
- Finally, and best of all, kids keep what they earn!
Community Event
Lemonade Day involves the entire community.
- We need Volunteers mentor the kids.
- We need Sponsors and Donors to help with the costs.
- And we need Thirsty Customers to buy lemonade on Lemonade Day.
Lessons Learned
As the kids are having fun experimenting with lemonade recipes, designing and crafting a lemonade stand and selling lemonade to friends and neighbors, they actually will be learning important life lessons that they can utilize throughout their life.
For those interested in volunteering to be a "Caring Adult" or CA, here is the timeline.
- Kids attend their Lemonade classes May 19, 24, and 26 from 6pm-7pm. They learn marketing, savings, developing a business plan, and location from Texas Bank & Trust.
- CA's are encouraged to attend the class on the 26th.
- The CA will discuss the specifics of Lemonade Day with their kid. Where exactly should we put our stand? When should we do this? What is our recipe going to be? How will we tell the world where we are? What should we charge?
- The CA will also give their kid $20 - Note that this is a loan. It is expected to be a loan. As in business, there are costs, which is what we are trying to teach our kids. Whether they are 6 or 20 years old, you gotta spend money to make money.
- CA's will have the entire next week to hammer out the details with their kid if needed. Some CA's will help build a lemonade stand, some will pass along grandma's secret recipe for lemonade.
- With Lemonade Week being June 6-11, the CA and the kid will pick their designated time and place to meet and sell lemonade.
