Our Clubs
Each day 6,000,000 kids go home to an empty home, at which time their chance of being involved in a crime or a victim of a crime triples.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Pines has a main location (the Carlile Unit) and seven locations that are school based sites. Marshall kids attending the Marshall Jr. High School, Price T. Young Middle School, or Sam Houston Middle School can take and MISD bus to the Carlile Unit at no extra cost. The transportation form is located on the home page.
Each school-based site is $15 per week with a $25 registration fee with scholarships available.
On a typical day, the kids will go from their classroom to a designated spot in the school. The kids will get homework help, snacks, some physical activity, and some HYLA - High Yield Learning Activities. HYLA could be an art project, sign language, music, any one of the great Boys & Girls Clubs porgrams (Smart Moves, Triple Play, or Youth for Unity).
These kids are also members of the Carlile Unit (main unit). On teacher inservice days, on holiday days (like MLK day), or holiday weeks (like Christmas break), we usually open the Carlile Unit from 7am -6pm at no extra cost to the parent.
