Because of the 21st Century Grant which allows us to open elementary and middle school on-campus sites, the Carlile Unit will take on a decidedly teen-feel.
Our goals for the Carlile Unit are:
- Assist our teens in graduating from high school
- Give them job-ready skills
- Get them to think beyond high school with secondary education - whether that is college, trade school, or the military.
A thought is to turn our rooms into collegiate themed rooms. Instead of "go to the art room" we could tell kids that "today in the Longhorn room" or the Aggie room or the Bear room.
We presently have 5 rooms to paint/decorate in your school's colors. The area D1 schools that we are looking at are: University of Texas Austin, Texas A&M, Louisiana State University, Baylor University, Texas Tech, SMU, and Arkansas. We are certainly not limited to those schools. Those are just the "biggies" with huge alumni bases.
The top five schools with the most individual donors by Monday August 8 at noon will get the paint. The University with the highest number of donors will get the largest room painted for their alma mater.
We estimate that the cost per room with paint and college swag will be in the $250 range. Our goal is not to get one person dropping $250, but in the interest of awareness for our Club to see 25 people donate $20 on their credit cards. Extra monies raised will go to more University paraphernalia then to the Youth of the Year scholarship fund.
You can donate by clicking on the big button with the logos to the right.
